Business psychology careers event at the School of Psychology
On 10th February the School of Psychology hosted a careers event designed to show our students how a psychology degree can lead to a range of exciting business careers.
The event was organised by Dr Catherine Jones, Careers Liaison for the School, and Hannah Chandler, a final year student who is committed to a career as a business psychologist. A psychology degree is directly relevant to a range of business careers but these options are not always well understood by students. Together, Hannah and Catherine worked to invite a range of professionals to share their knowledge and experience with the School’s undergraduates.
The speakers included three former students of the School of Psychology, which provided extra inspiration to the students and a trip down memory lane for the speakers! They included Stuart Duff from Pearn Kandola, Alastair McKenzie-Kerr and Jodie Lewis from ERM, and Rob Hutton from BAE Systems. Stuart, Alastair, Jodie and Rob all have exciting and varied careers in the fields of occupational psychology and Human Factors. The talks were complemented by a Question and Answer session with Katy Davies, a recent School of Psychology graduate who has just completed a Master’s in Organisational Psychology at the University of Leeds.
Approximately 60 students attended, with an impressive 92% agreeing that they had learnt about career options that interested them. A huge thank you to our speakers and Katy for their inspiring contributions, which have clearly helped out students in their career planning.
