Areas of interest
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); Trauma and Burnout; and Paediatrics.
My NHS clinical experience has predominately been within physical health settings. I worked for 7 years in a busy paediatric psychology department, where my primary role was supporting parents, children and staff in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU). As a result of the challenges faced by staff working in this critical care role, I am interested in work-related stress and trauma and this is an area in which I am overseeing a programme of research.
Outside of my role on the programme, I run an independent therapeutic referral service. My primary areas of clinical experience and interest are: anxiety / work-related stress and working with clients who have experienced acute traumatic events. I am passionate about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and this is my primary therapeutic approach and I provide the teaching on this approach to trainees on the doctorate. I am also coordinating research looking at developing ACT workshops for secondary school age pupils.
