Dr Kyla Honey BSc Applied Psychology, PhD, DEdPsy (Cardiff)
Professional Director (DEdPsy)
I am currently seconded on a part-time basis (O.5) to the School of Psychology, where I work as Professional Director and Tutor on the DEdPsy Professional Training Programme for Educational Psychologists. In addition to my role on the training programme, I work as a Senior Educational Psychologist at Caerphilly County Borough Council, where I oversee the School-based Counselling Service and support a number of mainstream primary and secondary schools; in addition to resource bases for children and young people with emotional, behavioural and social difficulties (EBSD), complex needs, Autistic Spectrum Condition and alternative curriculum provisions for young people with EBSD.
Prior to training as an Educational Psychologist in 2006-2009 I undertook a PhD concerned with investigating the contribution of coping and appraisal processes in the prediction and treatment of postnatal depression. During this time, I also taught on the Lifespan Development course within the School of Psychology. Following my PhD, I worked with Professor Halligan as a Postdoctoral Research Associate investigating visuospatial neglect and temporal processing.
My research interests have centred on investigating resilience and self-perceptions in children in public care and appraisal and coping style. More recently my research interests have centred on the identification and misdiagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome in girls.
